Put together by Vivienne Mackie 1. The Native Americans call December the "FULL COLD MOON" because nights are at their longest this month. 2. This month has many holidays and festivals: ST NICHOLAS DAY; CHRISTMAS around the world, celebrated in many different ways; HANUKKAH; KWANZA; EID-AL-FITR, the end of the Islamic Ramadan, this year (2002) on December 6th. 3. It is UNIVERSAL HUMAN RIGHTS MONTH. This is a time to distribute information about human rights throughout the world and to give out copies of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in English and other languages. 4. It is SAFE TOY MONTH. This is very important as many people will be buying toys as gifts this month.
5. December 1st is UNITED NATIONS WORLD AIDS DAY. This is an
international day of awareness and education about AIDS , giving
information about prevention and control.
